Director Shankar debuted in the industry with Gentleman, starring Arjun in the lead. The vigilante action film, which had Arjun playing a Robinhood of sorts, tackled corruption in the education system. The 1993 movie not only went on to become a box office success, running for over 175 days at theatres, but also won four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards (Arjun for Best Actor, Shankar for Best Director, AR Rahman for Best Music Director and Sujatha for Best Female Playback Singer Female).

Now, after almost 27 years, producer KT Kunjumon has announced that he’d be making a sequel to his much-acclaimed Gentleman. “An extremely popular producer in Mollywood, he came to Kollywood with Vasanthakala Paravai, directed by Pavithran. He then produced Suriyan, Gentleman, Kaadhalan, Kadhal Desam, Ratchagan and Endrendrum Kadhal, among other films. He’s known for spending lavishly even on songs, like in Oorvasi Oorvasi. After a hiatus of almost 20 years, he’s all set to return to production in Kollywood with Gentleman 2,” says a source.

The source adds, “Gentleman 2 will be shot on a lavish scale, using all the latest technologies. It will be filmed in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The cast and crew are yet to be finalized, though talks are on with some leading names in the south and Hindi film industries. An official announcement will be made soon by the makers.”

Interestingly, the 2019 Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Hero, which also had Arjun playing an important role, was hailed as a spiritual sequel to Gentleman for the subject it touched upon – education.
