The character that I played in DDLJ was a tribute to my father: Anupam Kher – Times of India
One of the most brilliant actors of Indian cinema, Anupam Kher has made almost every character he essayed memorable. Even as he played Raj Malhotra’s (Shah Rukh Khan) quirky and loving father in DDLJ, he ensured we remember him for the humour and warmth he brought to it.
On DDLJ’s 25th anniversary, Anupam Kher tells Bombay Times what the film means to him. He said, “According to me, Hindi cinema has two eras. Before Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and after DDLJ. It has been amazing to be a part of this iconic film. It has been a trendsetter as far as my character is concerned. Every young person from anywhere in the world who has seen the film wanted his/ her father to be like me… the kind of father I played in the film. Not many know this but the character that I played in the film was a tribute to my father. He was exactly like the man I portrayed in the film. So this film will always be special. I am glad that people continue to love it.”’
